Family Farm

The Trevelen Farm vineyard began as part of a 3160 acre farming operation and subsequently has developed into a successful wine label. With the broad acre part of the operation being taken over by son Ben, this has allowed a focus on the development of the wine business. John and Katie’s passionate farming heritage can be appreciated in the quality of the wines produced here.

The Open Garden

With purchases from the cellar door, visitors are invited to wander in the large country garden adjacent to the cellar door. Many groups with a specific interest in either wine or gardens combine the two with a visit to our cellar door. Specific garden groups are required to book ahead and receive a handout and information about the garden, a small charge is required for this. Trevelen Farm has been featured in this great event several times since 1996, and regularly hosts garden groups from around Australia.

Family History in Wine in Australia

Great Grand Parents Henry and Lidia Douglas were pioneers of the SouthAustralian wine industry in the 1850’s South of Adelaide at Happy Valley.

Henry was appointed an Inspector of Vines at that time with one of their neighbours being the Reynella Vineyard. The families involvement continued until the 1960’s when the remaining Happy Valley vineyard succumbed to the increasing urban sprawl of Adelaide and was sold to developers for housing.

This photo was taken from about the present position of the scour tower at the embankment. The house was on the opposit side of the winery.
